Scooter Jordan has been placed on the inactive list with a broken thumb after diving for a fly ball off the bat of Kennard Bibbs’ in yesterday’s 10-9 loss to the Sioux Falls Canaries. Jordan hit .261 in 157 at-bats, driving in 14 runs with two doubles, one triple, and nine stolen bases.
To fill Scooter’s roster spot, the Saints signed Mark Romanczuk (…pronounced ro-man-zick…), a left-handed pitcher who starred at Stanford during his collegiate playing career. He was a Preseason All-American in 2005, earning Second Team honors from Collegiate Baseball (Louisvilla Slugger) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He actually pitched for Team USA during the two summers prior to his 2005 season with Stanford, and was ranked No. 31 on Baseball America’s list of Top Collegiate Prospects for the 2005 draft. Romanczuk was a 4th round draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2005, and sat out the 2006 season rehabbing after an Ulnar Nerve Transposition. Romanczuk reached as high as Single-A South Bend (Midwest League) with the D-Backs, where he was 4-3 with a 3.73 ERA last season.
In other news, Kyle Resser has been released from the St. Paul Saints.
…lets start from the bottom and work our way up. kyle resser was a great story and i can personally attest to the fact that he is an extremely nice kid. it’s too bad it didn’t work out for kyle. as for romanczuk, i’m very excited to watch him pitch. he was a 5th round draft pick coming out of high school, and after earning the role as stanford’s ace in 2005, he increased his stock to the point where he got drafted a round earlier after three years of college. he’s a crafty lefty who can juice it up to the low 90’s, and posted some promising numbers after rehabbing from surgery repairing a nerve in his elbow. look for romanczuk to provide some depth in the ‘pen with the ability to get the tough lefties out in tight spots. as for scooter, this one hurts. he was not only the premier speed threat in the lineup and a phenomenal defensive presence in the outfield, but he was a quiet leader off the field by example. scooter will be sorely missed by the st. paul saints…
